There has been different host of the years including Andy Friedman, David Cusick. The current host, Ernie G. Anderson took over during the 1984-85 season. He continued to host for 14 seasons through 1998 until it was cancelled on WOWK-TV.
During Marshall University's SCORES festival, Ernie G. Anderson was asked in 1997 by Sherry Brooks to do a quiz bowl in conjunction with the festival. That quiz bowl continued through 2005 when Mike Farrell, interim president at Marshall came to watch. He authorized the show to filmed at Marshall's TV studio for one season. Unfortunately, the show was not renewed by the new MU President Dr. Stephen Kopp.
In 2008, Don Moore of Ohio University Southern campus in Ironton, OH funded the show for 2 seasons until funding ran out.
In 2021, Jim Forrest, General Manager at Kool Hits 105.7 brought High Q back on the air, partnering with My Town TV at the radio station building for one season until the partnership between Kool Hits and My Town ended.
The 2022-2024 seasons was produced by the newly created TV production division of Kool Hits, Kool TV.
In 2024, new Marshall University President, Brad Smith, worked to bring High Q back to MU at their newly refurbished Television Studio, where it is currently resides.
High Q is currently owned by Ernie G. Anderson's High Q Educational Game Show, Inc. a 501c3 company.
